Our Goal

The goal of the Beasley Youth Asset Development Initiative is to use the Search Institutes’ framework of Developmental Assets to reduce the rate of high risk behaviours in Beasley youth by assisting this community in becoming an asset rich environment for youth. The framework has become the most widely used approach to positive youth development in the U.S. and Canada. Studies of more than 2.2 million youth show that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high risk behaviours and the more likely they are to thrive. Assets have power for all youth, regardless of their gender, economic status, family or race/ethnicity.

Furthermore, levels of assets are better predictors of high-risk involvement and thriving than poverty or being from a single parent family. The average teen experiences only 18.6 assets (based on Search Institute surveys across Canada and the U.S.). We will unite all sectors of the community in action to intentionally build the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets into the lives of Beasley youth.

The Beasley Youth Asset Development Initiative will:

* Engage adults to develop sustained, strength-building relationships with young people.

* Mobilize young people to become asset builders and change agents in their communities.

* Invigorate programs for youth to become asset rich and accessible.
